Job Description:

The Associate Dean of Health Sciences is a full-time 12-month administrative position reporting to the Dean of Business and Health Sciences and is responsible for providing leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs including, but not limited to, Registered Nursing, Licensed Practical Nursing, Nursing Assistant Certification, Paramedicine, Emergency Medical Technician, and Industrial First Aid and CPR classes.

General Responsibilities and Duties include:

Leadership

  • Advocate for and represent the Registered Nursing, Licensed Practical Nursing, Nursing Assistant Certification, Paramedicine, and Emergency Medical Technician programs, and Industrial First Aid and CPR classes
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators within the Health Sciences Unit.
  • Establish and develop an effective communication process not only within areas of responsibility but with campus community and external stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership in development of effective teaching and learning strategies and outcome assessment tools.
  • Conduct program review processes.
  • Represent the unit in articulation and partnership activities with high schools, community colleges, four-year institutions, and business and industry.
  • Actively support activities that promote diversity.
  • Support faculty and staff development with identified needs and allocated resources.

Management

  • Oversee non-nursing class schedule development and work collaboratively with program directors/stakeholders in catalog preparation.
  • In collaboration with program directors/stakeholders and unit dean, develop and establish comprehensive budget allocations to include, but not limited to:
    • Institutional funds
    • Foundation funds
    • Other resources.
  • Monitor student advising processes in non-nursing areas.
  • Work collaboratively with program directors/stakeholders for recruitment, screening, orientation, and professional development of full-time and part-time faculty.
  • Work collaboratively with program directors/stakeholders in oversight of tenure review process for probationary faculty and evaluation processes for full-time and part-time faculty.
  • Serve as appropriate contact person or appeal person for student complaints.
  • Provide leadership to the Director of Nursing who supervises nursing faculty and staff within area of responsibility. Directly supervise non-nursing teaching faculty, division chairs, department heads, directors, and classified staff as per areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee facility and equipment allocation and use within areas of responsibility.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain program advisory board committees with internal campus community and external partners.
  • Oversee preparation of accreditation and state/agency reports for assigned programs, including development of timelines and resources necessary for compliance.
  • Develop and maintain clinical affiliations and clinical affiliation agreements.

Planning

  • Coordinate and foster collaborative planning and goal setting.
  • Establish and maintain identified FTE targets.
  • Fiduciary responsibility for allocation of resources (faculty, staff, equipment, goods & services) that will enhance and maintain student experiences within Clark College's educational settings.

Unit-Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinate career and technical programs and transfer opportunities within areas of responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership for grant writing opportunities.
  • Perform special assignments and related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master's degree in a related field OR a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Curriculum development and administration experience.
  • Five years of experience as a registered nurse including two years of teaching experience in nursing education and current knowledge of nursing practice at the associate degree program level.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering collaborations with wider college and external community to establish specialized partnerships.
  • Current RN license in both Oregon and Washington (or the ability to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and relate to those from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Previous work experience as a nursing administrator.
  • Previous teaching and leadership experience at a community or technical college.

Starting Salary Range
$73,000 - $77,500 annually
