Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Reports to the Dean, Health Sciences and Environmental Studies, and works collaboratively with the Respiratory Therapy Program Director and other faculty and staff in the Health Sciences Division. The Instructor: is responsible for theory and clinical instruction, including student evaluation. The Clinical Education Director: is responsible for arranging, evaluating, and overseeing all clinical education experiences. This includes organizing adjunct faculty and student clinical assignments, and providing liaison with the division office.

Night and weekend work may be required; work assignment includes all District campuses and sites; location assignments other than District campuses and sites may be required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide classroom and clinical instruction and student evaluation in a variety of settings. Demonstrates current clinical and theoretical knowledge required by a curriculum that is highly responsive to a rapidly changing and demanding job market.
Provide leadership for the clinical education component of the respiratory therapist program. This includes organization, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the clinical component of the program.
Work collaboratively with faculty and staff who provide education, evaluation and supervision to students.
Provide leadership in recruiting new clinical faculty and preceptors. Maintain current clinical contracts and pursue new clinical opportunities.
Work collaboratively with the program director, advisory board, adjunct faculty, community and students to evaluate the program curriculum and implement necessary changes.
Provide academic advisement to students and serve as a role model through participation in professional organizations and demonstration of exceptional practice skills.
Develop on-line courses and increase skills in the use of educational technology to the benefit of the program.
Perform other related duties as assigned within the Health Science and Environmental Studies Division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A current valid license as a Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of California.
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
3. Bachelor’s degree plus two years experience in clinical care and two years experience in a teaching position
in an accredited respiratory care program as required by CoARC. (May include adjunct appointment and/or
clinical liaison/preceptor.)
4. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of
community college personnel, students and the community serviced by the College.

Interest in environmental concerns as it relates to health care and college community.
Open to new ways of teaching and learning, utilizing emerging technologies and experimental theories.

CONTRACT PERIOD
This is a regular, probationary, tenure track, ten-month, faculty position commencing Fall Semester, 2010. The appointee would be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. The work year is 175 days.

SALARY Starting salary begins at $58,116 – $88,137 (BA to Ph.D) based on education and related experience.
